Just starting out on a yeast free diet? If you answered YES! let me answer one of the questions I often get asked from people new to the whole process. “I want to start a Candida diet but I don’t know what foods I’m allowed and not allowed to eat?” Fear not! In this article I’ll discuss a lot of the different options available to you when creating tasty candida recipes. I’ll also tell you what foods you want to stay away from or have only in moderation.

Let’s start with proteins. Having protein with every meal is not only filling but will enable your body to heal at speedier rate while providing you with a greater amount of energy.

If you’re a vegetarian you are allowed to have eggs and other dairy products, a really good option is plain yogurt. Any vegans out there can enjoy seeds, nuts, beans, soy and legumes. Now all you meat eaters should focus on things like fish, leaner meats, seafood and all the options I mentioned above for vegetarians and vegans.

One thing worth mentioning is that while some people do alright having items like cheese and milk others actually find themselves with more candida symptoms. I would suggest trying out these items and basing things off how they directly affect you.

In general grains are a big no-no in a yeast free diet. However, there are a few exceptions such as brown rice, millet, spelt, quinoa and any bread or pastas made using these types of grain.

Again it’s worth noting that some people feel fine when having whole grains on this diet but others experience problems after eating them. You should monitor how they affect you and go from there.

When choosing vegetables you want to stick to the low side of the glycemic index. The lower the sugar content the better. My favorite veggies to have during a candida cleanse are things like peppers, cabbage, broccoli, onions cucumbers, cauliflower, celery and raw carrots.

You want to stay away from foods like corn, yams and potatoes as they’re high in starch which converts to sugars once in the body.

People are often surprised when I tell them that fruits are very restricted during a candida diet because they tend to have high amounts of natural sugars which only help allow the yeast to grow. While trying to eliminate an overgrowth of yeast in your system you should only have lower sugar fruits like oranges, grapefruit, lemons, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries and limes. Also you’ll want to steer clear of fruit juice in general as they are high in sugar. You might say It is only natural sugar but trust me candida can’t differentiate.

When on a candida diet it is best to drink lots of water as it provides the most health benefits. One suggestion for a good “flush” is to have a cup of lukewarm water with a bit of lemon juice and artificial sweetener added in. Herbal teas are another great way to help rid the body of toxins. The great thing about teas are that there is such a wide array of flavors on the market you can constantly switch things up so you don’t find yourself in a rut and more prone to cheat.

No you might I noticed I mentioned artificial sweetener in the paragraph above. It’s not a typo! The candida plan allows no calorie artificial sweeteners such as Splenda, Sweet n Low, and Equal. There’s a lot of different info out there on these sweeteners so use them and monitor how you feel afterward.

As far as fats they are allowed in moderation due to the amount of calories they contain. Oils that you should stick to include olive oil, coconut oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil and grape seed oil.

Finally here are some ingredients that help aid in ridding the body of candida. These ingredients include onions, oregano, lemon juice and garlic.

Well I hope this article helped and good luck on your journey towards a yeast free lifestyle!
